Avigilon Alta terminology

When installing, commissioning, or operating components of the Alta cloud-based video security solution, or reading documentation about the products, you might come across the following terms:

  • Alta Aware — the cloud-native video management system produced by Avigilon Alta.
  • Alta cameras — Alta Aware compatible cameras made by Avigilon Alta. These cameras run the Alta camera software and include Avigilon Alta cloud-native cameras, Avigilon Ava cloud-native cameras, and Avigilon Ava cloud-connector cameras.
  • Alta Cloud Connectors — on-premises servers that enable Alta cameras without onboard storage or cloud connectivity, and third-party cameras to be connected to your Alta Aware deployment.
  • Alta Deployment Management Portal (DMP) — a cloud-native service that enables Sales Partners to configure Alta Aware deployments, users, and licensing on behalf of their Avigilon Alta customers.
  • Ava Aware — the previous name for the Alta Aware cloud-native video management system.
  • Ava cameras — see Avigilon Ava cloud-connector cameras.
  • Ava cloud cameras— see Avigilon Ava cloud-native cameras.
  • Ava Security Ltd. — the company, acquired by Motorola Solutions Inc. that originally developed the Aware Cloud video management system and the Avigilon Ava cameras.
  • Avigilon Alta — the cloud-based security platform that includes the video security products originally developed by Ava Security Ltd. and the access control solutions originally developed by Openpath Security Inc. and acquired by Motorola Solutions Inc.
  • Avigilon Alta cloud-native cameras — the range of cloud-native cameras made by Avigilon with onboard storage and
  • Avigilon Ava cloud-connector cameras — the range of cameras without cloud connectivity developed by Ava Security Ltd. prior to the acquisition by Motorola Solutions Inc. These cameras lack onboard storage and connect to an Alta Aware deployment through an Alta Cloud Connector. These cameras include the Ava logo in their design and were originally called Ava cameras.
  • Avigilon Ava cloud-native cameras — the range of cloud-native cameras developed by Ava Security Ltd. prior to the acquisition by Motorola Solutions Inc. These cameras include onboard storage and the Ava logo in their design and were originally called Ava cloud cameras.
  • Vaion Ltd. — the original company name prior to Ava Security Ltd. There are a small number of Vaion-branded cameras in use, connected to Alta Cloud Connectors and Alta Aware.
