How to: Set Alta camera system settings locally

Last modified: Sunday October 01, 2023.

The camera has an inbuilt web interface allowing changes to be made to the camera configuration. These include:

  • Change the password for Alta cameras connected to Alta Cloud Connectors (cameras without direct-to-cloud connectivity).
  • Update the camera software.
  • Replace the current version of software with another version, as specified by Avigilon Alta Support.
  • Convert the camera to ONVIF mode, or convert a camera that was previously put into ONVIF mode back into Alta mode. See: About: ONVIF mode for Alta cameras
  • Carry out a Factory reset.
  • Reboot the camera.

Prerequisites

Ensure you have connected and logged in to the relevant Alta camera. See How to: Log in to the Alta camera software.

Task

  1. Select System from the menu.
  2. To change the Password to log into Avigilon Ava cameras without direct-to-cloud connectivity, click Change password. Enter the current password, and then define the new password and repeat the new password. Click Update.

The password must contain a minimum of 10 characters, and cannot be commonly-used passwords such as "password", "12345678" , or strings of repeating characters.

  3. If newer firmware than currently installed is available, click Update, then click Update in the Update firmware dialog.
  4. If told to do so by the Avigilon Alta technical support team, click Replace with another version, and then browse to the provided firmware update file. Click Upgrade.
  5. To put the camera into ONVIF mode, select Convert to ONVIF mode. Click Convert.

When put into ONVIF mode, the user name is set to onvifadmin. You are prompted to enter a new password.

  6. To put the camera into Alta mode, select Convert to Alta mode. Click Convert.

When put back into Alta mode, the original Alta Aware user name and password is re-applied.

  7. If instructed to do so by the Avigilon Alta technical support team, carry out a factory reset on the Alta camera by clicking Factory reset.

    Risk of loss of data!

This option resets the Alta camera, and all your settings will be returned to the factory defaults. Your current camera configuration can not be recovered after the reset.

You can also carry out a hardware factory reset on your Alta camera. See How to: Reset your Alta camera using the hardware reset button.

  8. If instructed to do so by the Avigilon Alta technical support team, Reboot the Alta camera.
