How to: Edit your local Aware Settings

Last modified: Monday January 22, 2024.

As an Aware Operator or Administrator, you can set your personal preferences, for example, whether your user interface uses metric or imperial measurements from My profile.

Task — Update your local settings

  1. Log in to your Aware video management system.
  2. Click the Aware settings button in the top menu bar, marked with your username initials.
  3. Select Aware settings.
A dialog opens, with the following side tabs:
    • General settings
    • Preferences
    • Timestamp & Measurement
    • Currency formatting (for use with Point-of-sale integrations)
    • Keyboard shortcuts
  4. From the General settings tab:
    • View your user information.
    • Update your location information.
    • Enter/update your Phone details.
    • Enable Two factor authentication for your personal account (if not mandated by your system administrator.)
  5. From the Preferences tab:
    • Select your preferred language.
    • Choose to limit the number of cameras that can play back video at any one time. Only increase this from the default of 4 if your PC is sufficiently powerful to handle more concurrent video streams.
    • Choose the Fast playback mode, selecting either Reduced frame rate or All frames.

Using All frames for Fast playback mode is more resource and bandwidth intense. Only use this mode if your PC is sufficiently powerful.

    • Select either the light or dark color theme for the Alta Aware user interface.
    • Choose the Path for video streams. Remote users with no possibility of a local connection can benefit from playback starting faster by turning off Smartpath:
      • Smart: Aware determines the best route with minimal latency, including attempting a local connection.
      • Direct: Aware attempts a local connection only.
      • Relay: Aware quickly selects an available relay with a higher potential latency.
    • Enable a notification sound.
    • Show your interest in participating in Alta Aware surveys.
  6. From the Timestamp & Measurement page:
    • Select your preferred measurement units, either Metric or Imperial.
This is useful, for example, when adding temperature sensors, and defining how Aware shows the readings.
    • Choose how timezones are displayed in Aware:
      • For deployments where all cameras are in the same timezone, choose Based on current location.
      • For deployments where you have sites configured in different timeszones, select Camera Location (Defined per site).
      • Alternatively, Manually set user location.
    • To see additional time information in the timelines, select Show additional time info.
  7. From the Currency formatting (used with point-of-sale integrations) page:
    • Choose how currency values are displayed within the Alta Aware user interface.
This include options on how positive and negative values are shown, the decimal symbol to use, the number of digits to show after the decimal place, and options for digit grouping.
  8. Select Keyboard shortcuts to view the available Aware shortcut key combinations.
  9. Select Done.
