How to: Create an access control connection rule

Last modified: Monday December 14, 2020.

Once you have added your access control system to Ava Aware, we recommend that you configure a rule to notify you of any connection issues between Ava Aware and your access control system.

Prerequisites

Ensure that you have added your access control system to your Aware deployment.

Task — Open the Rules tool

  1. Log in to your Ava Aware deployment.
  2. Click New tool from the tool ribbon, then select Rules tool button Rules
    Tip

If the Rules tab is already open, click the tab to view the page.

Task — Create a connection rule

  1. Click the System tab System tab.
  2. Click the Add button add button.
  3. Type a name for the rule.
  4. Make sure the Appliance issues button Appliance issues button is selected (purple).
  5. Set the Level of importance for the rule.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Select Access control connection from External connection issues.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Select the access control points to use in this rule.
  10. Click Next.
  11. Specify your required Date & Time settings.
    Tip

If you have predefined them, use Templates to simplify adding the same date and time parameters to multiple rules.

  12. Click Next.
  13. Select your required actions. Select from:
    • Pop-up — when triggered, pops up a notification on the Aware user interface that includes a thumbnail view of the camera view that triggered the rule. The Pop-up can be expanded to show more detail and allow further actions to be taken by your operators.
      Tip

Optionally, select Also send a push notification on the mobile app to have your operators that use the Ava Aware mobile apps notified when this rule triggers.

    • Email — when triggered, an email message is sent to the defined user or group of users.
    • Webhook — when triggered, enables notification via a webhook to your preferred communication system.
      Tip

Alarms are only shown to operators that have access to the access control points that trigger the rule.

    • Choose if you require your operators to acknowledge the rule when it is triggered.
    Tip

Alarms are only shown to operators that have access to the access control systems that trigger the rule.

  14. Choose if you require your operators to acknowledge the rule when it is triggered.
  15. Click Done.
